Alicia Groveston

Master Coach

Coach Groveston is the current Head Coach at Grand Valley State University. She has spent the last 7.5 years building the varsity program at GV. In 2016, Groveston nabbed her fourth consecutive GLIAC Coach of the Year award while guiding the Lakers to a 15-5 overall record and 11-1 record against the conference. In addition to winning the GLIAC regular season and tournament titles for the fourth straight season, the Lakers made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the first time when they were named the fourth-seed of the North Region. 


She is the current President of the IWLCA and serves on the Division II NCAA Rules Committee.

The Annapolis, Md., native had a stellar playing career at Hartwick for two seasons, before transferring to Salisbury for her final two years of eligibility. She graduated magna cum laude from Salisbury in 2003 with a degree in Communication Arts/Mass Media. Groveston later received her MBA from Salisbury in 2004, graduating cum laude.


Coach Alyssa Neumen

Alyssa Neumen is currently finishing up her first year as an Assistant Coach at Grand Valley State University, where she was formerly a Student Assistant Coach for the Lakers. Prior to taking on a coaching role for the Lakers, Alyssa was a standout player for GVSU.

She received Division II All-Independent Second Team in 2012 and All-GLIAC First Team in 2013, 2014, 2015.  She was also named GLIAC Defender of the Year in 2013, 2014, and 2015 along with being named a member of the IWLCA All-North Region Second Team in 2014 and 2015. Alyssa was named an IWLCA All-American and selected to participate in the IWLCA North/South All-Star game in 2015. She also helped lead the Lakers to three GLIAC regular season and tournament titles in 2013, 2014, and 2015 along with contributing to the team honors of the IWLCA All-academic squad honors in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

During high school she played for Rockford and received All-Conference and All-State selections in 2010 and 2011.  She also received All-American Honorable Mention in 2011. Alyssa helped lead Rockford to three conference titles, four regional titles and the 2010 State Championship.

Alyssa completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in 2016; majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Anthropology.

Coach Rachel Ward

Rachel is the current Assistant Coach for Grand Valley State University.

She played four years at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. She helped Lock Haven to 3 NCAA tournament appearances, 2 PSAC Championships, and 2 National Championship game appearances. In 2012, she was named All PSAC. In her senior year, she finished as the second leading scorer and received All PSAC and Offensive player of the year for her team. She was also chosen to play in the IWLCA North/ South All-Star game.

In August of 2015, she went to Prague, Czech Republic and played for the Ireland National Lacrosse team. She was the second leading scorer on the team. She helped Ireland finish 5th out of 17 teams, which was the best placing so far in a tournament.  Rachel made the Ireland National team again and will be competing in the World Cup in England July 2017.

Rachel is from Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Bishop Chatard High School. She was a three year varsity starter. She received First Team All State in 2009,2010, 2011. She was awarded All American in 2011.

Rachel is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Adult Higher Education at Grand Valley State University.

Coach Charlotte Cassidy

High School Travel Team

Charlotte (Karlie) graduated summa cum laude from University of San Diego in May 2017 with a major in biology and minors in Spanish and theology.  She played midfield and defense for USD’s WCLA-D1 team for all four years, except when she was abroad in Rome during Fall 2015 semester.  Karlie was an Academic All American every season and captain her senior year.

Charlotte graduated from Forest Hills Eastern High School and was a 4 year varsity player. She was a 4 time All-Conference selection, All State Honorable Mention (2011), All State First Team (2012), All State Second Team (2013) as well as Academic All-State (2012, 2013) and Academic All-American (2012, 2013). Charlotte served as Captain her senior year.

Charlotte is a Biology and Chemistry double major with a minor in Spanish at the University of San Diego.  She is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and studied abroad in Rome in 2015.

Coach Ava Cares

Middle School Travel Team

Ava is currently a junior at Texas A&M University. Ava graduated from East Grand Rapids High School and is a four time State Champion. She then attended Adrian College to continue her NCAA lacrosse career and served as captain during her sophomore year. Ava is a midfielder who also takes the draw. She transferred to Texas A&M to pursue Petroleum Engineering and is going to play on their Women's lacrosse team.

In 2015 Ava played for AIST's Team USA in Scotland and in the UK Lacrosse Festival in England where they took first place for the first time at this tournament. In 2016 Ava played again for AIST's Team USA against Belgium's national women's lacrosse team and won. She also played in the Amsterdam Low Lands Lacrosse Tournament where her team placed second overall.

Coach Sam Deboer

Middle School Open

Sam will be freshman at Alma College in the Fall where she will play for the Scots.  Sam graduated from Rockford High School and was a three year varsity player and a captain her senior year. While Sam was at Rockford, she earned Athlete of the Month and was an Academic All-American.  Her team won 3 state championship titles, 3 regional titles, and 2 conference titles.
